A soldier in the Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) stationed at the Michel Camp has mistakenly shot himself to death. The incident happened in the early hours of Saturday at the Michel Camp’s Base Ammunition Depot.

A statement that was released by the Director General of Public Relations for the Ghana Armed Forces. on August 19, 2023, indicated that the soldier was spotted waiting to relieve his colleague at post at 08:00 when his rifle went off, hitting him beneath the chin and killing him instantly.
The body of the fallen soldier has since been deposited at the morgue for autopsy.

SUSPECTED ACCIDENTAL SHOOTING AT BASE AMMUNITION DEPOT
The Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) regrets to announce the death of a soldier from the 5 Infantry Battalion, Private (Pte) Bayou Roger, as a result of a suspected accidental discharge.
A team from the Homicide Unit of Ghana Police (GBETSELE Police Station) is collaborating with the Military Police to investigate the fatal incident.
GAF takes this opportunity to express its deepest condolences to the bereaved family, colleagues, friends, and loved ones of the deceased soldier.
