President Nana Addo in South Africa to Attend 15th BRICS Summit

President Nana Addo is out of the country to attend the 15th BRICS summit being held in South Africa. The president was invited by the president of South Africa Cyril Ramaphosa.

The Summit 3-day summit which is being held from 22nd August to the 24th of August is to be attended by BRICS member states namely Brazil, India, China, and South Africa. The President of Russia won’t be attending however he delegated his foreign Minister, Mr  Sergey Lavrov.

The grouping of Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa is termed BRICS. Prior to the induction of South Africa into the group in 2011, the alliance was referred to as BRIC. The formation of the multilateral grouping lay in a sole agenda to highlight the issues of the global South and to challenge the Western hegemony in the global system.

Nana Addo is expected to deliver a statement at the summit. He attended the event with his Minister for Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration, Shirley Ayorkor Botchway; and officials of the presidency and Foreign Ministry.
