Cecilia Dapaah arrested by the OSP for corruption-related offenses

Former sanitation minister Cecilia Abena Dapaah who recently made headlines for unpopular reasons has been arrested by the office of the special prosecutor over suspected corruption.

The arrest made is in connection with corruption-related crimes involving large amounts of money that were reportedly stolen from her residence.

Cecilia Dapaah in an attempt to redeem her image released a statement claiming facts in mainstream media were not complete. The sanitation minister later resigned from office.

The OSP on Monday 24th of July issued a statement that stated that the former Minster for Sanitation and Water Resources has been arrested.

According to the OSP’s statement, Cecilia Dapaah has been put under arrest and is being questioned by officials.

At 11:55 GMT on 24 July 2023, Cecilia Abena Dapaah, who resigned from the position of Minister of Sanitation and Water Resources on 22 July 2023, was placed under arrest by the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) in respect of suspected corruption and corruption-related offences regarding large amounts of money and other valuable items reportedly stolen from her residence.

Ms. Dapaah is being questioned by authorised Officers of the OSP.

Background:

Two house helpers that were working in the minister’s household were arranged before the Accra circuit court for stealing an amount totaling $1 million and 300,000 Euros including other expensive valuables belonging to Cecilia Dapaah and her husband Mr. Daniel Osei Kuffour.

The accused individuals, 18-year-old Patience Botwe and 30-year-old Sarah Agyei, have been charged with conspiracy to commit a crime and five counts of stealing.

Pressure has been mounted on the Minster ever since the new broke out.
