Starting from Wednesday, May 17, 2023, the Ghana Road Transport Operators are set to implement a 10% reduction in transport fares.

The decision is attributed to the recent decrease in the prices of petroleum products.

In a statement released on Monday, May 15, 2023, the association explained that this fare reduction aligns with the Administrative Arrangement on Public Transport Fares and aims to account for the observed drop in petroleum prices.

The reduction applies to shared taxis, intra-city (tro-tro), intercity (long distance), and haulage transports.

Ghana’s recent economic crisis led to successive increases in fuel costs, resulting in elevated transport fares. However, this marks the second fare reduction announcement by Road Transport Operators, following the recent decline in fuel prices.

The surge in fuel prices and subsequent transport fare hikes further exacerbated the financial burden on Ghanaians, as it led to increased prices for goods and services.
