Youngest African wins Grammy, beating A-list Nigerian musicians.

South African musician Tyla won the inaugural Grammys for Best African Music Performance for her viral hit “Water.” This would make her the youngest African to win a Grammy beating A-list Nigerian musicians.

Tyla’s win has caused excitement among South Africans but controversy among Nigerians.

Some Nigerians expressed surprise that Tyla, a newcomer, triumphed over more seasoned Nigerian Afrobeats stars like Burna Boy, Davido, Ayra Starr, and Asake.

Tyla’s fans argue that her win is deserved due to the massive success of her Grammy-winning hit “Water.”

“Water” became a global summer anthem in the previous year, breaking records on streaming platforms and dominating charts like the Billboard Hot 100.

Reacting to her groundbreaking achievement Tyla said ” This is crazy! I never thought I’d say I won a Grammy at 22 years old!”

Some Africans on social media have hailed Sunday’s Grammys as a historic moment for the continent’s talent, with Tyla winning, Burna Boy performing, and South African comedian Trevor Noah hosting music’s biggest event for a record fourth consecutive time.
