The decision to withdraw from ECOWAS will affect their citizens – Akufo-Addo

His Excellency Nana Akufo Addo has added his voice to the recent development in Burkina Faso, Mali, and Niger over the three countries decision to withdraw from ECOWAS membership.

The three countries under military rule since early 2022 announced their decision to withdraw from ECOWAS stating that the community doesn’t support their cause.

Ghana’s president, who was formally the chairman of ECOWAS, said that citizens of the three countries would be affected.

“This unfortunate decision by Mali, Burkina Faso, and Niger to withdraw from the ECOWAS community is going to be very negative for the populations there”

He also indicated that members of the ECOWAS community are waiting for a signal from the head, Tinibu to meet to ascertain the impacts of their withdrawal and the way forward.

“ECOWAS is yet to meet It happened on Sunday, and we are waiting for a signal from the head, Nigerian President Tinubu, to indicate the time when we will have a summit to examine the implications of what has happened and the way forward for the community,” he stated.
